An Illinois Republican has introduced legislation to block federal funds from transporting Guantanamo detainees to the Thomson Correction Center in northwestern Illinois.

Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) is seeking an across-the-board ban on all federal funds from being used for the facility to house detainees. Other Illinois Republicans, including John Shimkus, Judy Biggert, Peter Roskam and Tim Johnson joined Schock as co-sponsors.

"The 250 remaining terrorists being held at Gitmo represent the worst of the worst," Schock said in a rews release. "We should not put our national security at risk by bringing these terrorists into our state."

This opposition is part of a growing drumbeat of Republicans, including House Minority John Boehner (R-Ohio), who are vehmently opposed to allowing alleged al Qaeda terrorists onto U.S. soil.
