(AP) -- The National Cancer Institute has awarded $4.8 million to Beaumont Hospitals and has renewed the Royal Oak-based health care provider's designation as a Community Clinical Oncology Program for five years.
The Daily Tribune says Beaumont is one of 47 such programs in the country. The money will support clinical trials on cancer prevention, treatment and applied research.
The U.S. government created the oncology program in 1983.
