SPRINGFIELD, OHIO -- Hundreds of people came out to help two families that have had their worst nightmares come true. Their children were hit by a train and neighbors, friends and even strangers came to Jed's Restaurant to help their families today.
Cody Brown and Brianna Mullinger were trying to cross the railroad tracks on their way to school last week.
Witnesses say Cody pushed Brianna out of the way just before the train hit him, killing him instantly. Brianna remains in critical condition today after her leg had to be amputated at the knee.
This tragedy has struck a chord with many people and Jed's Restaurant put on a fundraiser, silent auction to help the families with expenses.
Kaitlyn Casper-Mayer is a classmate at Springfield High and says, "Its really comforting to see them all here and just know that they are are showing the support for the families I think they will."
You can still make a contribution Sunday by going over to jed's restaurant. They will be open until 10 tonight. donations can also be made to the families at any Key or Huntington Bank.
