Toledo man pleads no contest to fatal bicycle hit-skip

TOLEDO -- The man accused of hitting a Toledo bicyclist and leaving him for dead has pleaded no contest in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Jose Garcia, 28, pleaded no contest to aggravated vehicular homicide in court Monday.  He is accused of striking Flemming Williamson, 43, with his car while the victim was riding his bicycle in the early morning hours of Jan. 25, 2009.

Williamson was riding his bicycle to a store shortly after 5:00 a.m. when he was struck near Idaho St. and Dover Place in East Toledo.   The car that struck him immediately fled the scene.  Williamson was proounced dead at the scene.

Garcia turned himself in to authorities the day after the incident. 

Prosecutors say Garcia was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
