A man is dead after falling into the chilly waters of the Maumee River.

According to police the victim, and two friends, were walking along the dock-face near the power plant in the 1500 block of Front Street around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.  According to witness statements the unidentified man fell in the water.

Despite rescue attempts, the man went under.  His body was eventually recovered and transported to St. V’s where he was pronounced dead.

Police believe alcohol may have played a role in this accident.  The results of toxicology tests are pending.
