TOLEDO, OH -- Toledo police shot a suspect in a bar shooting Friday night at the Hot Shots bar on Central and Albion.

Police Chief Mike Navarre says the incident happened around 2:10AM.  The suspect and two other people were leaving the bar when they started arguing.  That's when police say Alvin Tate pulled out a gun and started shooting near a crowd.  At least two other people returned fire.

Two police sergeants yelled for Tate to put down his weapon, but instead, Navarre says he pointed it at police.  They fired ten shots and hit him three times.

Tate was taken to Toledo Hospital in critical condition.

Chief Navarre says there have been problems at this bar in the past.  The police department even lobbied to have their liquor license not renewed.  They may do that again following this incident.
