TOLEDO -- Democratic mayoral candidate Keith Wilkowski is feeling confident on Election Day.

NBC24 caught up with the candidate at his campaign headquarters.

Wilkowski and his campaign volunteers were on the phones right up until the polls closed at 7:30 p.m. to make sure supporters got out and cast their votes.

Wilkowski himself cast his vote early Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. along with his wife Barb at Hope Lutheran Church.

Later in the day, Wilkowski show no signs of nerves, even joking with NBC24 reporters.

He says he slept well Monday night and is looking forward to the culmination of all his campaign's hard work.

"I am feeling good. I feel that we've spent a long number of months delivering a message to voters that we can turn this economy around, that we can put people to work, that there's cause for hope so if ell good having delivered that message," said Wilkowski.

Still, he would not answer the question: If he wins, would he hire on Bell to work for his administration?

"I think that we've sort of called a truce on that," said Wilkowski. "We're going to both focus on winning the election. I know that we're focused on that up through the time that the polls close."

Wilkowski says instead of being focused on giving Bell a job, he is focused on the tens of thousands of Toledoans that are out of work right now.

Wilkowski also said he feels voters have benefitted from a positive campaign.

"I think everyone's excited about the culmination of a campaign, a campaign that's talked about the issues that people about in toledo which is jobs and the economy," he said.

Wilkowski says he feels humbled that so many volunteers came out in support of his campaign.

NBC24 will be with Keith Wilkowski as he and supporters gather tonight at UAW Local 12 to watch election results come in. We'll also have live coverage from Mike Bell's watch party at Navy Bistro.
