(Luckey)--Many homeowners in the village of Luckey say they're "fortunate" to have the opportunity to try a new type of recycling called organic recycling. The days of curbside pickup of plastic, metal, and glass are long gone. And now, just about everything, excluding the kitchen sink, is recycled and taken to a composting site.
The 65-gallon recycling carts hold everything except, glass, metal, plastic, rocks, painted wood, styro-foam, and foil. he folks who work for NAT Transportation and collect the recyclables say the homeowners have to follow the instructions carefully, otherwise they won't collect.
Supporters of organic recycling say the overall process is much easier for the trash collector since there is no sorting. Everything is collected all at once. In addition, they say composting not going to the landfill cuts down on harmful greenhouse emissions.
Hirzel Farms near Pemberville is handling the composting for the village with an average amount of 2-thousand pounds expected to be brought in a week.
By the way, plastic, metal, and glass can still be recycled in the village. You're asked to drop them off, on the last Saturday of the month from eight to noon, at a site near the post office.
