OREGON, OH -- This week's NBC24 Glass Apple winner has no problem pushing her students to excel.
In fact this physical education teacher from Fassett Middle School in Oregon knows how to get her kids moving on the fast track to success in both body and mind.
Lisa Stevens goes one step beyond her daily duties as coach. She actually runs the after school program called "The Fitness Club." 40 to 50 students have already signed up for the club so far this year. And beside physical fitness, the young adults learn about proper eating habits. They also take part in extracurricular activities, like running off campus or skating. And perhaps best of all, there are rewards and prizes.
The students participate in this club for an hour a week. Lisa says we all need the workout. 30 minutes a day, three times a week at least. it's a way to "step up" to the plate and count the way to overall good health.
