The University of Toledo held “Momentum 2010 Northwest Ohio Young Women’s Summit.” The Women’s Initiative of the United Way of Greater Toledo, Cooper & Walinski LPA and KeyBank came together to sponsor the event.
Over 170 girls attended the educational event. They rotated to different seminars throughout the five hour summit. Courses were offered on how to manage money, financial aid and scholarship opportunities and how to prepare for college.
Dr. Elizabeth Ruppert, chair of Momentum 2010, stressed the importance of setting educational goals early on. “Every girl needs to know that college is an option for her.”
The “Planning for College” course walked students through each year of high school and the application process to college. It gave the girls a guide to courses, exams and extra curricular activities that will prepare them for college entry. “Like everything else you want to master you have to plan for it and you have to learn some skills,” Dr. Ruppert.
