Too many women die each year because they are unaware that heart disease is their No. 1 killer. Right now, one in three women die of cardiovascular disease and 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease in the future. That’s why the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement, is calling on women to speak up about this largely preventable disease.
“Thanks to the participation of millions of people across the county, the color red and the red dress have become linked with creating awareness of heart disease in women,” said Jacqueline Isherwood, executive director of the American Heart Association, Toledo, “Go Red for Women is channeling its energies and resources to challenge real women nationwide to discover their personal heart health risk by taking the online Go Red Heart CheckUp. Go Red provides tools and information women need to protect themselves and their loved ones.”
