TOLEDO -- A popular holiday tradition in the Toledo Police Department is the announcement of Santa's imminent arrival to the city.

The announcement can be heard over the police scanner and has been made by the same officer for the last 35 years-Jim Ogle who has been with the department for 43 years.  But because Officer Ogle is dying from cancer this Christmas Eve may be his last Santa broadcast.  "It's looked forward to by most police officers and a lot of the civilians out there they call to make sure that it is going to out; it's a tradition that I am proud to have kept up all these years," Officer Ogle said.

Ogle was released from the hospital so that he could go to the 911 call center to give the broadcast.

Police Chief Mike Navarre said that the broadcast was a welcome relief from some of the bad news that has plagued the department in recent weeks.
