Dr. Andy Jorgensen, associate professor of chemistry at the University of Toledo has been awarded nearly $2M in grant money from two federal agencies to study the effects of climate change on the environment. From July 2008 to July 2009 Professor Jorgensen was a senior fellow at the National Council for Science and the Environment. "The National Academy of Sciences says the last decade of the 20th century was the warmest in the last 400 years," Professor Jorgensen said. Dr. Jorgensen is gathering other intellectuals and college students to a website that is focusing on climate change. "We are creating an online community of global climate change education that posts information on all aspects of the environment," Professor Jorgensen said. The website is TOLEDO, OHIO -- www.eoearth.org. Dr. Jorgensen received $1.8M from the National Science Foundation and $180,000 from NASA. 2009 was the first year that either organization had awarded grants to scientists for the exclusive purpose of studying climate change.
