(AP) -- LAKEVIEW, Mich. - Authorities say a 47-year-old Ada Township man practicing takeoffs and landings has been killed after his plane crashed in a western Michigan field.
WOOD-TV says 47-year-old Kevin Milarney was the single-engine plane's only occupant when it crashed about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeview Airport-Griffifth Field in Montcalm County's Cato Township, about 130 miles northwest of Detroit.
Lakeview Fire Department Chief Clark Newell tells The Grand Rapids Press "the plane was pretty much destroyed" by the time firefighters arrived.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
Messages seeking further information were left Thursday with FAA officials.
