TOLEDO -- Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner has announced a plan to create an ordinance that would prohibit texting while driving.
Voters in Bowling Green rejected a proposed ban on the use of hand-held cell phones back in May.
The proposed legislation, introduced by Finkbeiner during a Friday press conference, will go before Toledo City Council for a vote. The proposed law would prohibit the use of text-messaging devices while driving on the road.
A number of bills have been introduced in Ohio, just this year, calling for a ban on texting while driving. This summer, the state of Illinois successfully banned texting while driving.
In early August, NBC24 conducted a test to see how distracting text messaging can be to a driver. Watch the results of our road test here.
