TOLEDO, OH -- Three candidates turned in their petitions for Toledo Mayor Wednesday, two days ahead of the July 17 deadline.
Keith Wilkowski, Ben Konop and Mike Collins turned in their paperwork at the Lucas County Board of Elections and expressed concerns about the upcoming challenges Toledo faces. Each touched on unemployment.
“Obviously everyone is worried about the economy,” Collins said. “We will need job creation. The best way to reach that goal is to work regionally with other northwest Ohio cities, townships and villages.”
Additionally, Wilkowski said, “Our budget deficit and home foreclosure crisis all comes about because we don’t have jobs here in Toledo. We need a focused effort on that and one thing I prepared and proud author of is jobs for Toledo.”
Konop said he felt very optimistic that several months from now the vast majority of Toledo will be a voice on the 22nd floor.
“That’s what this campaign is mainly about,” he said.
Each mayoral candidate needs 750 valid signatures for their name to appear on the ballot for Toledo Mayor during the September 15 Primary election.
