TOLEDO -- An Ottawa Hills police officer involved in the May shooting of a motorcyclist has been issued an indictment by the Lucas County Grand Jury.

Officer Thomas White, 26, stopped two men on motorcycles after a short pursuit in the Village of Ottawa Hills around 2: 00 a.m. Saturday, May 23.  After being stopped near the corner of Indian and Central Ave. , Michael McCloskey, 25, of Maumee, was shot by the officer.

The second motorcyclist, Aaron Snyder, 35, was taken into custody by another Ottawa Hills police officer at the scene.  He was charged with drunken driving and failure to comply.

Reports indicate that the two bikers were riding through the village at high speeds and that they failed to stop for the officers.

Shortly after the shooting, the Ottawa Hills Police Department contacted the Ohio Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCII) to look into the incident.

After processing of all evidence at the scene as well as analysis of all images recording by police vehicle cameras at the time of the incident, the BCII decided to issue an indictment against Officer White.

White has been indicted on one count of felonious assault with a gun specification.  He faces up to 11 years in prison if convicted.

The Ottawa Hills Police Department has pledged to cooperate fully with the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office..
