TOLEDO -- Mercy Health Partners, of Northwest Ohio, has announced they will lay off 71 employees amidst growing economic constraints.
The group cites the recession as a major factor in causing individuals to defer healthcare services. For those individuals who do seek care, more and more are now unable to pay. As a result, Mercy, like other providers, has seen an increase in charity care.
This has lead Mercy to make the difficult but necessary adjustments to ensure a continued position of strength.
These changes are taking place at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, St. Vincent Mercy Children’s Hospital, St. Anne Mercy Hospital, St. Charles Mercy Hospital, Mercy Hospital of Willard, Mercy Hospital of Tiffin and Mercy Healthcare Center and will result in 71 people who will be without positions.
Both management and non-management positions are being affected primarily in non-patient care areas, including information services, clerical and dietary.
Mercy has also reduced expenses in several areas including supplies, sponsorships and information technology as well as reduced hours for some employees.
Human Resources will work with the affected employees to assist them in seeking available positions within Mercy Health Partners.
