(Sylvania)--A greener style of educating young children is taking root at one local preschool. These little ones at Sylvania Children's Center, or SCC, are eager to learn about anything and everything. And now they are part of a sustainability effort, the first of its kind in northwest Ohio. it's a way to teach them about the importance of where and how we live.

70 preschoolers, from 18 months to 6 years, participate in this green curriculum of sorts. They eat on reusable placemats. Also the leftover food of the day goes into a worm composting bin. And this is just in the classroom.

Outside these kids' thumbs become even greener. There's even a rain barrel to recapture rainwater for watering the garden. And while the children learn as much as they can about their environment during the school day, teachers hope this knowledge will go beyond these walls and extend much farther.
