(Toledo)--A local printing company's commitment to the green movement is definitely "up in the air." But it's not what you might think. Homewood Press, close to the border of Ohio and Michigan, prides itself in reducing its carbon footprint as well as becoming a trend setter in the overall eco-movement by going sky high.
It all centers around a wind turbine a top a 60 foot monopole. This device is generating more than electricity for this 80-year old Toledo business. It's actually putting the company in the "green" spotlight as one of the only manufacturers in the state using wind to partially power its facility.
Going green is not a new idea to the company. Actually, during the past eight years, this family-owned business has taken extra steps in its manufacturing process to protect the earth and conserve resources. Just about everything is recycled, even the ink residue and used solvents.
Homewood Press's motto is less is more. And that's the company's hope when it comes to other businesses and their power consumption on the environment.
Green by Design, a Bowling Green contractor, helped install the 30-thousand dollar wind turbine. Homewood Press hopes to recoup the amount in the next few years.
By the way, the company's next ecological endeavor will be to build a rain garden to reduce rainwater runoff. There are also plans to install some form of solar energy within the next year.
