TOLEDO, OHIO -- Joe the Plumber has had run-ins with John McCain and Sarah Palin in the past few days. He has also had a run-in with Toledo Police.
Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher was stopped by two Toledo police officers after he was clocked going 50mph in a 35 mph zone on Dorr St. last week.
Officers ran Wurzelbacher's plates and asked for his license. It was then that the officer realized who he had pulled over. A second officer gave Wurzelbacher a verbal warning and released him.
A police report obtained by NBC24 states that the patrol unit did not issue a citation to Wurzelbacher because it felt doing so would have "negative repercussions to the department and city as a whole".
Just one day before the traffic stop, a Toledo Police clerk was charged with gross misconduct after allegedly performing an unlawful search of Wurzelbacher.
The Ohio Attorney General's office has made an inquiry into why Wurzelbacher was not issued a citation since it was a legitimate traffic violation.

WHO DO YOU THINK SHOULD BE PARTLY AT FAULT.BY LAW THAT COP SHOULD HAVE CITED THE DRIVER FOR HIS PASS. NOT HAVING HIS SEATBELT ON, HE JUST SAVED A LIFE, THUS DOING HIS JOB. I honestly think that this whole thing is becoming a joke. This guy is milking this "image" that was given to him by McCain and it is only going to backfire on him in the longrun. I am sick of hearing about him and I wish that he would just grow up!! This guy is only trying to see how far he much he can get as a result of his misrepresented comment to Obama. Now that the media and everyone else is playing along...he is going to steal, manipulate, and whatever else it takes. Pay the ticket and get some morals about yourself!!!!!!!!!

The law is the law, don't try to pass this off, the Toledo PD should be viewed negatively. Attitude like this makes me sick to think this man who want pay his taxes, lies to the public about starting a small business and has made a fool of John McCain.
Joe is allowed to break the law (based on Bull-Crap)and gets a "Free Pass" instead of a speeding ticket.
"Free Advice", to the community of Toledo don't support the Toledo Police Department, if your name isn't Joe the Plumber, don't you dare break a fraction of the law, FAIR WARNING: You will get a ticket. Delarph

I voted for Obama, and I'm as sick and tired of hearing about "Joe the Plumber" as I would imagine most people are. But in this case, I think the officer made a wise decision in using his discretion by not issuing a ticket. It could appear to some that Joe was being persecuted. Joe just lucked out, as I have before, and I'm sure a lot of you occasional speeders out there have too. Kudos to the cop on this one!

I WOULD RESPECT JOE THE PLUMBER MORE IF HE ADMITTED ON NATIONAL TV LIKE HE DID ON LOCAL TV..THAT OBAMA'S TAX PLAN WOULD HELP HIM..HE WANTS TO SAY THAT OBAMA'S TAX PLAN SOUNDS LIKE SOCIALISM..WELL TAKING OTHER PEOPLE MONEY THAT YOU DIDN'T NOT EARN TO SUPPORT YOU SOUNDS LIKE SOCIALISM TO ME JOE..AND ANYONE WHO HASN'T LIVED THEIR LIFE UNDER A ROCK KNOWS THAT WHEN YOU ARE IN THE PUBLIC EYE YOU SUBJECT YOURSELF TO SCRUTINY UNDER THE MEDIA WHY SHOULD HE BE ANY DIFFERENT..HE HAD A CHOICE..HE CHOSE TO GO PUBLIC...AND HE SHOULDN'T GET A BREAK..AND IF HE WAS ANY TYPE OF DECENT HUMAN BEING HE WOULD HAVE INSISTED ON GETTING THE TICKET HE SO RIGHTFULLY DESERVE..HE PROBABLY FEELS BECAUSE HE IS A "CELEBRITY" HE CAN DO WHAT HE WANTS...THERE'S A PRICE TO PAY TO BE A CELEBRITY..JUST ASK BRITNEY SPEARS....DO THE RIGHT THING JOE..BECAUSE IF YOU RUN FOR CONGRESS IT WILL COME BACK TO HAUNT YOU.....

So Joe the plumber, a real regular guy, gets stopped for speeding but isn't given a citation because he's a celebrity. Which wouldn't have happened if he was a regular guy. Which he isn't. So he's not. Except that he is. A regular guy, I mean.
And because Joe is a regular guy, it's not fair for the media to ask questions about Joe even though Joe goes out of his way to invite media attention. Which a regular guy wouldn't do, except that Joe does. Which makes Joe a celebrity. Which he isn't. Except that he is. A celebrity, I mean.
So Joe is celebrity because he's a regular guy. Which is what a celebrity isn't. Except that Joe is. Only he's not. Because he is. See?

Joe fits in well with the corrupted, greedy, lying Bush/Cheney crew. Futhermore if one does not pay his or her taxes, break the law, then you will become a celebrity and a McCain/Palin hero who may eventually run for a congressional seat and just might win. However if you stand for integrity and honesty you are vilified.

Every other ticket handed out that day should be thrown out. The officers involved should be disciplined. 50 in a 35 is a danger to every other motorist on that same road that day. Forget politics, enforce the law Toledo! Its no wonder people speed in Toledo!

All you have to do is schill for the right-wing and so begins your life of entitlement and lawlessness. Enjoy Joe, no longer will you have to pay traffic tickets, report for jury duty, pay your taxes, abide by ethics rules, be faithful to your wife, be a decent human being, use logic to answer questions, or follow the social contract in anyway.
You'll be living a privileged life now that you have decided to change your name, become a fake plumber, and go on tour with the McCain/Palin ticket (and run for office yourself, hire an agent, pursue a book deal and speaking engagements). For god's sake leave Joe alone!! Can't you see what a tough life he has now that he's a GOP celebrity.
Palin/Wurzelbacher 2012!!!

Shame on the Toledo Police for treating "Joe the Plumber" any different then anyone else!!!!! He deserves no special treatment just because of his name!
Posted by p s, ny - Tuesday, November 04, 2008 at 12:25 p.m.
I don't see why people would be irritated by this. The man had illegal inquiries into his personal life. I've gotten away with a verbal warning for a traffic violation before...as have many people I know...and there's nothing special about us. The police and the courts give people second chances every day.

Give me a break on the Joe bashing. This is a guy, who yes, asked Obama a simple question. Now the GOP is complaining that the press are digging up dirt on the guy? This is like Palin saying that her right to free speech is being questioned because her vitriolic statements are being challenged. What you say on TV will be questioned, and that includes both Palin and "Joe" regardless if one is a politician and the other a simple (fake) plumber. Obviously with all the inconsistencies with Joe's real life, it was worth digging up the REAL story about who he is. If he didn't want the attention, he should be campaigning with McPalin or pursuing a book deal, a recording contract, obtaining an agent, etc. Bunch of hooey!

So now "Joe the Plumber" is a celebrity and now he doesn't have to abide by the same laws as the rest of us. I'm ticked!!!!!
I just got my first speeding ticket the other day for going about the same # of miles over the limit. Must be nice Joe.

This is what kills me about all of this.....The guy asked a question to a presidential canadite and WNWO 24 News has strung the guy up. Going over every aspect of his life. Why? He did not ask for this. Channel 24 has an agenda like all these liberal media. Get Barrack Obama in as president. How would the staff at 24 like it if someone looked up everything in there lives? Took out all there skeletons in there closets and announced them to all the public? I think not so much. I've been let off with a warning for traffic violations before, and all you liberals out there have too. When the officer is walking up to your car, after pulling you over, you know that you are sitting there hoping for a warning. Your a liar if you say you don't. Channel 24 should be run outta business for the BS that they are doing w/ this whole "Joe the Plumber" crap and that is why I don't watch them. Leave the guy alone!!!!!

There has been no better thrill than to see Joe the Plumber get involved with our political system. I asked a painter at our hospital yesterday who he was voting for. He said, I am voting for Joe the Plumber. Joe should get a free pass from all the media and the probers put him through. I love ya Joe.

Seriously, nothing better to report on than Joe-the Plumber getting pulled over for speeding? Oh that's right, you are an NBC affiliate. How typically left-wing of you! In the tank for a certain Democrat are we?????
Leave the poor guy alone. He accomplished something that none of the media would even dare to try...getting Obama to show his true colors!

Posted by Melinda Glass, Oregon, Ohio - Tuesday, November 04, 2008 at 8:02 a.m.
If this was a regular "JOE" we would have had a ticket.. I think he should have been ticketed just like any other person doing 35 in a 50!!! Just because he is a McCain supporter does not give him the right to get a "get out of ticket" free card. This is complete BS!!
Posted by Patrick Whited, Columbus - Tuesday, November 04, 2008 at 7:19 a.m.
Investigating why he didn't get the speeding ticket? The officer on scene is ALLOWED to let the driver off with a warning. Period. No law states that the officer MUST write the ticket.
Joe has been persecuted for daring to speak the truth to The Messiah. A Left Coast radio jerk stated on air that he wanted "Joe the plumber" to DIE.
Leave the guy alone and get on with your lives.

Joe is nobody special and he should not be treated any different......he broke the law and he should have to pay just like the rest of us would have to pay if we got caught.

WOW! So now Ohio is a full-fledged POLICE STATE!
Gov has 2 hit men, opps “state police” officers doing 27/7 surveillance on Joe!
Ya sure they decided not to give Joe a ticket, ya sure, more likely they forgot to turn off those pesky dash cameras!
“Toledo Police clerk was charged with gross misconduct after allegedly performing an unlawful search”
Helen Jones-Kelley, head of Ohio’s Department of Job and Family Services authorizes an investigating of Joe based on some NON-EXISTENT famous person policy.
Illegally digging through this guy life looking for dirt of some kind and plastering it out to the waiting press!
And lying about it! Both her and your Governor lied! Said none of the information that was found during the illegal search was released to the public!
Hey explain this!
From the Toledo blade “Wurzelbacher registered as an apprentice with the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council in November 2003, according to Dennis Evans, spokesman with the Department of Job and Family Services.
Dennis Evans, spokesman with the “Department of Job and Family Services” OPPPS so much for Helen Jones-Kelley and the Governors claim that NONE of the info they got was released to the press.
BTW is Dennis Evans a license spokeshole?
And now the Ohio Gov. is using the State police to track Joe down just looking for an excuse. Better check those “State police” evidence rooms! bet there some guns missing from the room!
All this cuz he asked a public servant a question,

Why didn't the police question his driver's license? Didn't Sam lose his license in Arizona? How did he get an Ohio Driver's license?

So the guy got a verbal warning. What's the big deal like no one ever gets off with a warning. I know I have in the past. I've seen Judges on the news caught drunk driving and they get off so why the big deal about a speeding ticket. Oh because it's "joe the plumber".

I am so tired of hearing Joe the Plumber. And how sad is it that he can break the law and law officers turn their heads. They don't what to look bad, please!! This makes them look worse in my opinion.
Posted by Nancy Gibbons, Boston - Monday, November 03, 2008 at 10:55 p.m.
So the cops didn't want to give Joe the unlicensed plumber a speeding ticker because they didn't want it to look negatively on their city? Joe Schmo would have gotten a ticket, but Joe the plumber doesn't? Oh yeah, that makes the Toledo Police Department look real good! It pays to know people in high places- it gets you special treatment!

Posted by Bob Kleinfelter, Toledo - Monday, November 03, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.
I think that Joe should have received a ticket just the same as any other common citizen would have. The officer said he didn't want to reap any more bad publicity for the police department or the city, I think this will be worse. This just re-enforces the image that you don't get tickets if you are someone "important."
Posted by Savantster ., . - Monday, November 03, 2008 at 7:10 p.m.
So, the "average Joe" here doesn't have to abide by the law, but the rest of us average Joe's do.
This is just more of the same, and so blatantly before an historical election. Just keep letting the "popular people" do what ever they want, and make sure the law only applies to us peasants.
Posted by becky martin, Sylvania - Monday, November 03, 2008 at 6:45 p.m.
That is not right just because he is the so called joe the plumber he is let go for breaking the law and toledo didnt want neg press for doing their job. since when do certain people get to break the law and go free maybe Toledo should give everyone who got a speeding ticket this week a free pass too!
Posted by Tim McGuire, Ohio ex-pat - Monday, November 03, 2008 at 6:31 p.m.
Local police have great leeway in stopping people for minor traffic violations, and whether to issue a citation or a warning.
If the attorney general gets involved in this, it looks political (because it will be.)
