SYLVANIA, OH -- In Ohio, pit bulls are considered vicious dogs. They're regulated in Toledo, and now some Sylvania residents want them regulated as well.
Right now in Toledo, people aren't allowed to own more than one pit bull, and they have to keep the dog on a leash and muzzled if they leave their property. Sylvania City Council is looking at that same regulation. Council members are also considering requiring all pit bulls to be spayed or neutered at 6 months old and not allowing convicted felons to own pit bulls at all.
Residents in Sylvania spoke to City Council Monday night to voice their opposition to these proposals. They say the dogs can't be blamed for vicious behavior. It's the fault of the owners who breed them to be vicious.
City Council members did not vote on the proposals - they just gathered information.
