(AP) -- About 27,000 Cooks deep fryers have been recalled due to faulty heating elements that can cause the fryer to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

The deep fryers were imported by JCPenney and made in China

Five incidents have been reported, including one of a minor burn and three reports of damaged countertops.

The Cooks deep fryers, with the model No. 22016, were sold at JCPenney's stores nationwide, the store's catalog and online from August 2007 through January. Details: by phone 888-333-6063; by Web at http://www.jcp.com.
