TOLEDO, OH -- Toledo Public School Board members voted 4-1 Tuesday evening to offer the open superintendent job to Dr. Jerome Pecko. Pecko accepted the position.
Board member Larry Sykes cast the only no vote, saying his dissent was not a reflection on Pecko but on the superintendent search process.
Pecko was the final remaining candidate after finalist Dr. Tom Watkins dropped out of the race. He formally worked as the superintendent of Springfield Local Schools in Akron.
TPS board members will offer Pecko $175,000 a year for a 3-year contract including a one percent pay cut each year.
Pecko will replace outgoing superintendent John Foley whose contract expired at the end of July.
