TOLEDO, OH -- Jazz phenomenon Art Tatum is well-known throughout the world and now a group dedicated to Tatum's memory is working to get Toledoans to recognize the hometown genius.
For the next few months, you will notice colorful, hand-painted pianos popping up around the city.
The Walleye Hockey Team even painted one.
The Art Tatum Jazz Heritage Foundation hopes you will take the time to tickle the ivories and think about what Art Tatum did for music.
"The library has a grand piano, there are uprights and they are different. Every single one is different and Tuesday, on Art's birthday, Renee at the zoo is going to paint her piano," said Kay Elliott, Art Tatum Jazz Heritage Foundation.
To recognize Tatum's 100th birthday, the group also plans to auction off the pianos to raise money for their foundation.
