SYLVANIA, OH -- It is not New Years but I have a resolution.

I am going to train for a triathlon.

I am starting this Tuesday with the goal to complete the Sylvania Triathlon this summer in good time.

The triathlon bug started gnawing on me a couple of months ago when I went out to get video of the Sylvania Triathlon for the news.

It was early in the morning on one of the hottest days of the year... and all of the racers were smiling! Why?

"A triathlon is three disciplines so when you get out of the water you're smiling because you made it out of the water and then you get to think, 'OK, now's the bike' and you get on the bike and once you make each transition it's a smile because you've just completed another section and no matter how bad it may or may not hurt during the race, when you cross that finish line, it all just goes away and women who've had children, it's kind of the same thing, it's just an awesome feeling of accomplishment," said Liz Young, Team Toledo Triathlon Club.

A standard triathlon is a 1.5 kilometer swim, 40K bike ride and 10K run.

If I am going to do this, I need help. Young has agreed to be my trainer and she says getting support from her and from a triathlon club like Team Toledo will really make the difference.

"The best information I got was not from reading books but from talking to all the people in the club and they're so supportive and it's great to have people cheering you on whether you're last or first or anywhere in the middle-it's awesome," said Young.

One thing that surprised me was that my training involves not just swimming, biking and running but weight-training.

"The stronger your core is the better your body is going to function in all of the disciplines," said Young.

So it is a good thing I signed up with a gym like SuperFitness so I have it all readily available.

I do not want to do this training alone... so YOU should join me!

Young says anyone can do a triathlon.

"Really, if you have a goal set that you want to do, you can do it," said Young. "You don't have to be this fast racer, this fast runner, a lot of people do it for a lifestyle change."
