CINCINNATI- About 1,000 people gathered in support of the nation's oldest institution for training rabbis, cantors and educators of Reform Judaism.

Sunday's celebration came as the board of governors for Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion gathered on the Cincinnati campus for a vote Monday on restructuring the school.

Financial pressures had officials earlier considering closing two of the three U.S. campuses. The others are in New York and Los Angeles. The board announced in May that it had adopted a plan to avoid closings through restrucuturing.

The celebration also focused on the $12.1 million renovation and expansion of the college's library in Cincinnati and the start of a yearlong commemoration of the school's 135th anniversary.
