OHIO -- The Ohio Environmental Education Fund is a series of environmental education grants that are administered by the Ohio EPA. These grants are funded by civil penalties collected by the EPA for air and water pollution control violations. The grants are awarded in amounts up to $50,000, and about $1 million is given out annually. Ten grants were given in Ohio, totaling $350,000 Those eligible for the grant are environmental groups, public and private schools, colleges and universities, trade or professional organizations, businesses and state and local governments.

An $18,705 grant was awarded to Penta Career Center to fund equipment and materials for 11th and 12th grade students to explore solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, biomass, biofuels, and fuel cell energy technology. The grant will also provide enough money to finance a week-long summer day camp in 2010 and 2011 for 100 seventh through ninth grade students. The goal is to encourage these students to pursue careers in green energy.

The next OEEF application deadline is on January 15, 2010. You must send in an electronic letter of intent to apply by January 8. Contact the Ohio Environmental Educational Fund for additional information at (614)644-2873 or visit www.epa.ohio.gov/oee/.
