Senator Mark Wagoner joins Coach Doug Merrill
Power UP 5k and Bike to Toledo Express Airport
September 26, 2009Senator Mark Wagoner will accompany Coach Doug Merrill on a portion of the route from Bowling Green High School to Anthony Wayne Dudrow Building and then join cyclists who will ride to the 180th Fighter Wing Air National Guard base promoting the Power UP Foundation, which provides financial assistance to communities and programs promoting positive physical fitness, therefore positive mental health. Coach Merrill, Author of “Fighting the Demon of Suicide” and Founder of the Power UP Foundation, is also in the process of organizing a historic run that is scheduled to begin fall 2009 in Boston, Massachusetts and to conclude March 2010 in Key West, Florida. The run is scheduled to last 6 months and will have Coach Merrill running a ½ marathon (13.1 miles) a day. Coach Merrill plans to speak at universities, colleges, community organizations, and high schools to spread his message of achieving positive mental health through improved physical health. The goal of the run is to raise $25 million dollars for the “Power UP Foundation”. Community programs across the country that promote positive mental and increased physical health would be eligible to apply for a grant from the foundation.
