A discussion will follow the exclusive presentation.“As one of Toni Morrison’s most controversial books, The Bluest Eye is a story that easily lends itself to a theatrical reading,” says Hunt, founder of New Works. So bold is the novel’s plot that it has been the target of restrictions from some public school libraries. The Bluest Eye was selected for Oprah Winfrey’s prestigious “Book Club” in 2000.In its second decade, New Works Writers Series is Northwest Ohio’s oldest independent black theater and performance arts organization. A 501(c)3 non-profit, New Works has presented plays and workshops within the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library system, at the Toledo Museum of Art and Detroit’s Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, to name only a few venues.Admission to the Ground Level Coffeehouse reading is $5.“We promise a moving performance of this outstanding author’s work,” adds Hunt. “We also expect to enjoy a lively discussion.”For more information, contact Dr. Imelda Hunt at (419) 380-8464 or via e-mail at director@newworkswritersseries.org.# # #
